Rachel Reed

Teaching expecting parents about pregnancy, birth and postpartum is one of my greatest joys. The others are named Julia, Lorelei, and Jonas and the experience of being their mother informs my teaching every day. I began working with families welcoming their babies home and adjusting to the "new normal" that is living with a newborn and I discovered that encouraging parents to trust their intuitive knowledge of how to love and care for their baby led to confident parents and happy babies. I went on to attend a DONA birth doula training and began supporting families in pregnancy, birth and afterward as a doula, a trained birth professional who provides physical, informational, and emotional support to mothers and their partners. A light went off as I found that this work was meant for me and offers endless opportunities to learn from, as well as teach, parents and young children about pregnancy and birth. Since then I have welcomed my youngest child, Jonas and become a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator.

Advocating for family centered care that is rooted in evidence-based practices is my passion and informs much of what I teach in my classes. I believe that parents who are educated about their choices and current evidence are capable of making informed decisions about their birth and their baby and encourage expecting parents to engage in a conversation with their care providers throughout their journey.

Outside of my practice as a birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator, I enjoy hiking and swimming with my husband and kids and making big messes in the kitchen.

Feel free to contact me for more information about group and private classes or with your questions, I look forward to hearing from you!
